SUMMARY
Snowball is a music management application for massive collections of MP3 files (>50,000 tracks). It also allows you to move your albums and tracks around the Internet or a local network.

Snowball is free to download and distribute, and we provide email support. If you have any suggestions please use our Feedback Form or send us an email.

There is an online Snowball Manual that describes how to get started with Snowball, how to transfer music, and advanced methods of collection management.

If you want to use the network facility you can freely register for a Snowball-NET account.

Snowball 2.00
SPECIFICATION
Snowball stores your MP3 files in an indexed folder structure. When you've finished using Snowball to sort your music you can access it using Windows Explorer or any music playing software.

Using the Snowball-NET facility, Snowball can connect to another Snowball anywhere on the Internet. Tracks and albums can be transferred over the Snowball-NET. Now you can hold your music collection on a computer at home and access it at work or on holiday.

Instead of playlists, Snowball lets you create virtual albums, for example "Bob's Favourite Coldplay tracks" and store this under "Coldplay" as if it was another one of their albums. Grouping tracks into virtual albums makes it easy to build a compilation and send it to your MP3 player. See Making a compilation album.

By checking every MP3 file before it is added to your collection, Snowball makes sure your collection contains only good quality tracks that will play.
Tracks and albums can be "shortcut", so they appear in more than one location in your collection. This is similar to the shortcut facility in Windows. Shortcutting reduces the number of duplicate tracks making your collection more compact. For example you might want to store a shortcut to the album "The Best of Sting and The Police" under both "Sting" and "The Police".

For large-scale synchronization of music collections, there is a "Swap-Doc" facility which automates the process of copying every track in another music collection into your music collection that you don't have, or that is of better quality. Swap-Docs can be transferred as email attachments. See Swap-Docs.

Tracks can be grouped into clusters, for example, "Classical", "Comedy" and "Not Heard Yet". So if you wanted to tidy up your classical albums, enable the filter for the "Classical" cluster and the workspace shows only your classical music. When you are finished, disable the cluster filter, and the workspace shows all of your collection again.
