THE SNOWBALL MANUAL ADVANCED TRACK-ADDER OPERATIONS The Track-Adder is used to add music for ripping, absorbing and Snowball-NET transfers. The Track-Adder has some extra options that can help make sure your tracks go where you want them, with the names you want. It can save a huge amount of time. Case Study - The James Bond Themes Album As an example, I am going to absorb an album called James Bond Themes. This is a typical compilation album, consisting of numerous artists, with not a lot in common between them. The album is already somewhere on my hard disk, so I can now absorb the MP3 tracks into my collection. To open the Track-Adder from the main-menu (blue button, top-left) click "Absorb from hard disk or memory stick...". Alternatively I could double-press "A". In the window that pops up I enter the location of my James Bond tracks, and click Scan. ![]() The tracks found are loaded into a Track-Adder window. |
The Track-Adder is divided into two panels. On the left are the Source tracks available to be added to my collection. On the right, the Target panel, shows how the tracks will appear if they are added to my collections.I want to add all track to my collection, so I select the folder in the source tree, and click the Add All button. All of the tracks are added to my target tree. |
Now I can see in the target tree, all of the tracks, stored under their artist and album. (This information was pulled out of the MP3 files.)I could now click the Start button and add these tracks to my collection. But I would no longer have a James Bond Themes album, just a load of tracks scattered all over my collection under various artists. Also, I don't like the look of some of these track names. 04 A View To A Kill (From A View To A Kill) Some duplication there. And because MP3 tags are sometimes too short to contain the whole name, the names have been truncated: 16 The Man With The Golden Gun (From The Man With The Gol Also, each track would be stored in an album called "Bond... James Bond" under the artist name: Duran Duran \ Bond... James Bond \ 04 A View To A Kill (From A View To A Kill) |
I'll start by changing the names. If I double click a track in the target tree, the Set Target Names window pops up.Now I can edit the target track name for each track. In this case I decide to change 09 The Living Daylights (From The Living Daylights).mp3 to 09 The Living Daylights.mp3 Clicking OK save my changes. |
Great! But doing this for every track in the target tree would be tedious. So instead I open the target-tree tools menu.
From the target-tree tools menu, I select "Select all tracks". Then, again from the target-tree tools menu, "Track Names, Chop of after first bracket". Now my track names are shorter. But each track is still in an album called "Bond... James Bond", and there is one of these albums for each artist. And the tracks are all prefixed with a track number which is irrelevant. So after selecting all the tracks again, I open the target-tree tools menu, and click "Make the selected tracks orphans." Now my tracks are clearly named, and orphaned to their artist. See naming conventions for more details about orphans. One last job. Recreate the James Bond album. |
From the target-tree tools menu, I select all of the tracks in the tree. And from the target tree menu, I select "Add track shortcut...". In the Track Shortcut window I set the name of the Artist to "Soundtracks", and the album to "James Bond". It doesn't matter that the artist Soundtracks doesn't exist yet. Click OK. |
A new album has been added to the target-tree, containing all of the tracks, and their original track numbers. This is a virtual representation of the James Bond album. Now when I click Start to add the tracks to my collection, two things will happen. Each track will be added to my collection under it's artist name. And a shortcut to each track will be added to my Soundtracks\James Bond album. |
