SILVERLIGHT PLUG-INS
Silverlight plug-ins are tiny applications that run inside your browser window.  They do not need installing, but are downloaded whenever an update is available. Silverlight plug-ins are limited in what they do, so they cannot harm your computer.

SUMMARY
Pock lets you send secret messages by email, and without using suspicious-looking jumbled-up files.

Firstly, you and the receiver need to decide on a set of secret codes. You will need a password, a codeword and an algorithm-phrase.

The password is a secret word, six or more characters.

The codeword is at least 10 letter or numbers, for example, "POTATO12345". The receiver will be asked for three characters from the codeword to open the message. Instead of typing these letters in, the receiver picks them from a disc.  The disc stops snoopers opening your secret messages by monitoring your keyboard strokes for passwords.

The algorithm-phrase creates the encryption algorithm that will encrypt and decrypt your message. The longer your algorithm word, the harder your message will be to crack, and the longer your encrypted message will be. See the Sandwich Encryption section for more details on combinative-algorithm encryption.

Once the message is encrypted it is converted into text characters, with spaces, full stops, and paragraph breaks. You can paste this text into an email, and it will pass straight through internal firewalls, the firewalls will assume it is a message in a foreign language. If the encrypted message was a binary file attached to an email it would be blocked by a firewall.

Messages that have been encrypted and wrapped are referred to as "packages".  When the receiver gets a package, they copy and paste it into Pock, enter the password and select three letters from the codeword, enter the algorithm-phrase, and the message can be deciphered.

Pock can only be used to send text messages. No files can be attached to a Pock message. No one could use Pock to send you a virus.

INSTRUCTIONS
To encrypt a message:
  • Switch to encryption mode by clicking the Encrypt button in the bottom-right corner of the main window.
  • Switch to the Message page.  Enter a subject for the message or leave blank.  Enter your message text.  Click the paddle on the right to continue.
  • On the Codes page, enter a password, and enter it again to verify.  Do the same with the codeword.  Click the paddle on the right to continue.
  • On the Algorithm page, enter an algorithm-phrase, and enter it again to verify.  Click the paddle on the right to continue.
  • On the Package screen, check the status of the message, codes and algorithm.  If something is wrong, click the error message to go to the page with the error.  If everything is ok, click "Encrypt" to encrypt the message into a package. Copy the package into an email
To decrypt a message:
  • Switch to decryption mode by clicking the Decrypt button in bottom-right corner of the main window.
  • On the Package page, paste your package into the box.  Click the paddle on the right to continue.
  • On the Codes page, enter your password.  Three characters are required from your codeword.  Use the wheel to select each character.  Click the paddle on the right to continue.
  • On the Algorithm page, enter your algorithm-phrase.  Click the paddle on the right to continue.
  • On the Message page, check that there are no errors.  Click the Decrypt button. If decryption was successful, your message will appear in a popup.
